The history of debating at St Rita’s has spanned many years. St Rita’s is a member of the Queensland Debating Union (QDU) and is a prominent challenger in the competition, having several teams across all Year levels in the final rounds each year. St Rita’s College is the QDU Champion School in the Year 10 competition for 2016. St Rita’s College also competes in the Brisbane Girls Debating Association (BGDA) with senior teams from Years 10–12.

Girls in Years 7–12 take on the skill which develops their confidence and creativity through intellectual exchange. The St Rita’s teams are coached by both experienced staff and external mentors, including past students. Their preparation of the girls and the commitment shown by each team has been outstanding and is testament to the unbeaten success many teams have enjoyed.

Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 compete in the Northern Division of the QDU and Years 11 and 12 debate with schools from Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold and Sunshine coasts. Through the QDU Mooting Competition, our debaters also have the opportunity to compete for a scholarship to study Law at Bond University.
