St Rita’s hosts an Outdoor Education Program for Years 7 through to 10. The aim of the compulsory program is to extend the learning experience beyond what the classroom offers and give the girls opportunity to participate in team activities that develop and enhance their resilience and their collaboration, and their organisational and leadership abilities. The girls will learn new skills to assist in learning more deeply about themselves and each other and encounter experiences that allow them to better understand and appreciate the beauty of their natural environment.

Facilitated by Queensland Conference and Camping Centres (QCCC), the program is specifically designed for St Rita’s College and complements what is learned in the classroom. Each step of the program encourages the mind to be curious, responsive, trusting and brave, and reinforces that lessons are not necessarily all learnt in a classroom and that learning is for life.

Year 7

Students in Year 7 will spend one night in residential accommodation and then experience a one night introduction to camping. With a focus on getting to know class mates and having fun together, the program will involve beginner level activities such as the flying fox and abseiling, as well as basic camping, bushwalking and canoeing skills.

Year 8

With an emphasis on goal setting and the right attitudes for excellence, our Year 8 students experience a multi skilled expedition completing a scenic coastal walk, a sea kayak and discovering local area history. Students will be introduced to navigational and technical paddling skills and be encouraged to embrace responsibility and ownership.

Year 9

The Year 9 expedition will be a picturesque, hiking and canoeing experience incorporating elementary first aid. With plenty of ready assistance, the girls will be camping in tents for the entire experience and they will immerse themselves in enjoyable personal development time.

Year 10

The Year 10 expedition will head over the border into New South Wales to be enthralled with an amazing coastal walk and white water canoeing. Gently challenged in the white water rapids whilst canoeing, the girls will be nurtured to lead the expedition in developing leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
