Mission and Service Learning
Inspired by the Jesus’ call for justice, St Rita's students are empowered to empathise with the poor and marginalised, to venture beyond what is comfortable, to challenge what is culturally difficult and to question what is socially acceptable - becoming bold advocates for a just world.
Emerging from our profound commitment to the St Rita’s motto, Virtute non Verbis – Action not Words, students at St Rita’s College are taught that they have a responsibility to empathise with the poor and marginalised and to advocate on their behalf. They dare to voyage beyond what is comfortable, to confront what is culturally difficult and to question what is socially acceptable.
Students have many opportunities to engage in service and outreach programs to support the mission of the College and to follow the call that Nano Nagle herself heard, to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in seeking out and caring for the poor and marginalised.
There are service and outreach opportunities for students at the College including:
- Big Brekky (in partnership with Nudgee College)
- Ecumenical Coffee Brigade
- Rosies Student Engagement Program
- Student2Student Reading Program
- Homework Club
Ongoing opportunities exist for our Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 students throughout the year as need arises e.g., fundraising for Project Compassion and Catholic Mission. These students take ownership of how these funds are raised from year to year.
Following in the footsteps of Nano Nagle, who answered Jesus' call by seeking out and caring for the poor and marginalised, our students have many meaningful opportunities to put their faith into action through service and outreach. Current programs include the Big Brekky (in partnership with Nudgee College), the Ecumenical Coffee Brigade, the Rosies Youth Engagement Program, the Student2Student Reading Program and Homework Club, with many more opportunities to take action in programs and activities throughout the year.
Ongoing opportunities exist for our Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 students throughout the year as need arises e.g., fundraising for Project Compassion and Catholic Mission. These students take ownership of how these funds are raised from year to year. In this way, our students grow into bold and compassionate advocates for a more just and merciful world, living proof that by actions, not words, faith can truly change lives.
We acknowledge the Turrbal and Jagera people, the traditional owners of the land where St Rita’s College now stands.
