Social Science Social Science

It’s the way in which we shape the world around us; the human ingenuity of our ancestors and the relationship to our lives today; why some things succeed, and others don’t.

The Golden Pharaoh, Tutankhamun (King Tut) is arguably one of the most famous persons through which archaeologists have studied human history. What they learned from the fossils and artefacts in his tomb was mind-blowing. The ancient Egyptians invented lots of things we still use today including paper, pens, locks and keys – and believe it or not – toothpaste!

At St Rita's, the Social Sciences are all about understanding the world we live in, how it came to be, and how it is likely to change in the future.

Our Social Science teachers guide our students to create knowledge, not just memorize facts.

It is the Science that we talk and walk. It’s the people and places that have led to the civil, economic, political, academic, social and cultural pursuits of our vast world. It’s archaeology, geography, history, law and linguistics; it’s anthropology, economics, political science, psychology and sociology. A student who embraces the Social Sciences opens up a world of career opportunities for themselves. This diverse subject area is one that the girls can genuinely live out the values of Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters – to become involved, compassionate, honest members of the community and curious about the questions of “how” and “why”.
