College Leadership Team
Principal - Maree Trims

One of my goals as Principal is to build a strong school community. A connected school community creates an environment where students have a sense of belonging, feel safe, valued, and motivated. This positive atmosphere encourages students to engage more deeply in their learning, leading to better academic outcomes and student wellbeing. When parents and carers are actively involved in the school community, they can better support their children's education. This involvement helps parents to understand College goals and challenges, meet other parents, and know you are making a meaningful contribution to our SRC community.
Ways you can get involved in our St Rita’s community
P&F
This partnership ensures that the voices of parents are heard, students' needs are met, and the College's goals are supported. By working together, we create a cohesive community that enhances the educational experience for all. Joining the P&F Committee, and attending P&F meetings, is a fantastic way to meet other parents and build lasting friendships. These connections provide a support network that can be incredibly beneficial, for all parties. P&F initiatives help bring our College community together. The Welcome BBQ following House Warming this week, Mother/Daughter and Father/Daughter events, and other parent only events are organised by our P&F volunteers. Whether it's a BBQ, parent night, or dinner, these events create opportunities for families to connect and celebrate together. Another role of the P&F Committee is to organise fundraising initiatives. These efforts provide essential resources that enhance our College programs and facilities. Last year the P&F contributed $200,000 towards the resurfacing of the Eirene Hall floor and supported the purchase of furniture in our Library, benefiting all students and staff. Please consider attending our P&F meetings to offer your support. The P&F meet once a Term on campus. The next meeting is Tuesday 18 March at 6.00pm in the Library. Visit the P&F Page on MySRC for further details and a full program of P&F Events. Email: pandf@stritas.qld.edu.au
Music Support Group
The Music Support Group (MSG) supports the College’s extensive cocurricular music program by fundraising to assist with the provision of instrumental resources, large scale productions, and special workshops. Through the provision of hospitality at music events and running of the Rita’s Longest Lunch as a major fundraiser, they aim to assist the music staff in developing and growing the music program and supporting each student to achieve their musical goals. The MSG meets once a month, online via Zoom with the next meeting, the AGM to be held on Wednesday 5 March at 6.00pm. Click here to nominate for a position on the MSG Committee, visit the MSG Page on MySRC for further details, or email: music@stritas.qld.edu.au
Sports Subcommittee
The Sports Subcommittee (SSC) is a dedicated group of parents and carers committed to supporting the College Sports program. The SSC strives for students to have the best opportunities and facilities available to train and compete in their chosen sport. Most importantly, to help build an environment so that all students fully enjoy their college sporting experience. Through various volunteer activities, such as providing breakfasts and lunches as well contributing towards sports camp costs and team registrations, the SSC assists both sports staff and teams. SSC meets once a month with the next meeting, the AGM to be held on Wednesday 19 March at 6.00pm. Click here to nominate for a position on the SSC Committee or email: sport@stritas.qld.edu.au
Pantry
Our Pantry is always looking for volunteers to assist in ensuring our Pantry runs smoothly and continues to provide delicious, healthy options for our students. Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with other parents, support our school community, and make a positive impact on your daughter’s daily experience. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or just once a month, your help is greatly appreciated. Please consider signing up and becoming a valued member of our Pantry team! Email: pantry@stritas.qld.edu.au
Alumnae
With our College centenary fast approaching in 2026, I warmly welcome past students to Reconnect with Rita's by joining our Alumnae committee. Many alumnae have celebrated their past connections with the College through class reunions and they have all been very successful. One of the major activities of the Alumnae is to provide a network through which graduates can keep up to date with what is happening within the College and with their peers. All past students are encouraged to keep their email and mailing address details up to date with the College. If any new parent is a past pupil, or knows of any past pupils interested in contacting the Alumnae, please email alumnae@stritas.qld.edu.au The next Alumnae meeting is on Tuesday 29 April at 6.00pm in the Library.
I encourage all parents to consider joining a committee and supporting the College by volunteering. Your involvement, no matter how big or small, makes a difference and together, we can continue to build a strong, connected, and thriving school community. Please read our Volunteer Guidelines and complete a Volunteer Form.

Last Friday Xaverian House hosted Safer Internet Day. The internet provides so many opportunities and connections; some great and some risky. It is always good to review use of the internet and apps.
Please see below for some resources provided by the eSafety Commissioner:
- The Safer Internet Day hub is a one-stop shop for resources, toolkits and activities. Whether you're an educator, parent, employer, or community leader, you'll find tools and information to promote online safety.
- Please explore: resources for parents, carers, and organisations working with families to support safer online spaces in your community.
Also, a reminder to RSVP to our parent information evening presented by Clinical Psychologist Dr Judith Locke on Thursday 3 April in Trinity Auditorium. This exclusive session for parents of Years 5-12 SRC students will see Dr Locke share research-backed insights and practical tools to support your child’s confidence, personal motivation, and ability to manage schoolwork demands. Learn how to foster a positive parent-child relationship and prepare your child for success in school and beyond. Click here to RSVP
School TV has provided a wellbeing barometer test that you might find interesting to complete. By participating in this survey, the school can identify areas of strength, uncover potential concerns, and pinpoint opportunities for early intervention. The survey’s findings enable a deeper understanding of young people’s lives, supporting a more tailored approach to improving mental and emotional wellbeing. Please remember, all responses remain anonymous and should reflect observations made over the last 12 months. Survey results are only reported on an aggregated basis.
Another free information session for parents/carers is available via an online workshop that will inform you about what’s influencing your student/s. With young people spending so much time online, what they see and do can impact their behaviours and beliefs. Online disrespect is one of the ways violence-supportive attitudes can start to develop. Stop it at the Start has partnered with Tomorrow Man
and Tomorrow Woman
to help parents, carers and other significant adults of young people, aged 10-17 years, to better understand how the online world is influencing their views on respect and gender. It shares practical ways to help build relationships and start important conversations. Join facilitators, Jack Ryder and Kasey Miles, for a free interactive, evidence-based, 90 minute workshop, focused on connecting with young people and providing families with practical tools they can use day to day. The workshop will be held Thursday 27 February 2025, 7.00pm-8.30pm (AEDT). Register here.

Academic Assembly - Friday 21 February, 8.30am
We look forward to celebrating the Semester 2 academic achievements of many of our students at our College assembly on Friday 21 February. Congratulations to our students whose dedication will be recognised with presentations of Academic Improvement, and Academic Excellence, with students receiving green, red, and blue awards in Years 7 to 10, and bronze, silver, and gold awards to celebrate academic excellence in Years 11 and 12.
Visit MySRC to access the list of academic award winners.
We will also celebrate students who achieved Distinction or High Distinction in our SRC Honours Mathematics program. This program is a self-paced course which requires students to work through numerous topics at a higher level than their current curriculum and requires students to show initiative in researching how to complete set tasks. The course is offered through Education Perfect and overall results are determined in combination with their class results.
Sincere congratulations to
all our award winners; all these students have displayed commitment, dedication
and persistence to their study routines which has resulted in their success.

SRC Change Makers
We are excited to announce our partnership with Containers for Change as a service learning opportunity for our Primary students. Led by members of our Hopeful Hearts Club, Year 5 and 6 students will facilitate the Containers for Change program at St Rita’s College, engaging staff, students, parents, and community members in making our school more sustainable.
All proceeds from our collections will go to charity, with a focus on Caritas in Term 1. Containers will be collected on campus and sorted by Primary students into the green Change Bins for collection. Keep an eye out for a Change Bin next time you attend a College event.
Year 6 Planetarium Excursion
Last Friday, our Year 6 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. They discovered the wonders of the universe in the Cosmic Skydome and were eager and enthusiastic learners. In the Display Zone, they explored interactive displays, showcasing amazing space artifacts and models of spacecraft. Year 6 have been studying Earth and Space Sciences this term and have specifically been learning about the movement of the Earth and other planets around the sun. As part of their recent studies, they have been exploring how the Earth’s tilt, rotation on its axis, and revolution around the sun relate to the phenomena of day, night, and the seasons.
Thank you to Mr Robinson, Mrs Skelton, Miss La Rosa and Mrs Hukins for making the day such a memorable learning opportunity for our students. We are very proud of our Year 6 students for being such responsible, engaged, and positive representatives of our College community.
Term Overviews and Assessment Calendars
Term Overviews for Years 5 and 6 are now available via the on the Primary Parent Hub on MySRC in the Curriculum Documents section.
Please peruse the document relevant to your daughter’s year level. The Assessments for all Primary students are now visible on the College Calendar. On the MySRC Dashboard, select your daughter’s calendar, then click through to find assessments in bright yellow.
Primary Parent Study Skills Session
Thank you to those who attended our online Primary Study Skills Session on Wednesday 19 February. A recording of the presentation will be made available on the Primary Parent Hub in coming days. We strongly encourage families to view this presentation to help alleviate stress around assessments and to help build strong, sustainable study habits at home to support student wellbeing. A special thank you to Ms Amanda Wallas, Head of Study Skills, for facilitating this event for our Primary families.
Primary Before and After School Expectations
Parents are reminded that the Before and After School Expectations apply to all Primary students in both Year 5 and Year 6.
Thank you to Year 5 Parents for following the Year 5 Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up Plan. Please ensure your Student Surname Card is clearly visible on the passenger side visor, not on the dashboard.
Year 5 parents are reminded that Year 5 Pick Up is from 3.20pm-3.40pm. Please do not wait or line up on Enderley Road until 3.20pm when the boom gate rises as this is causing significant traffic issues for our Secondary Pick Up area.
Primary Uniform Expectations
As part of our College community, Primary students follow the College Uniform Guide. Please refer to the Guide for all uniform requirements.
Skorts: We note that many Primary students have grown over the holidays. With the Formal Uniform Skort being an essential part of our Primary uniform, please ensure your daughter’s hem is no more than 2.5cm above the knee at all times. Skorts will need to be re-hemmed as your daughter grows and provision has been made for this periodic alteration in the skort design.
Hair: Hair is to be neat and brushed, with longer fringes (i.e. finishing below the eyes) kept off the face with brown snap clips or bobby pins. Hair ribbons must be white or brown.
Thank you for your support in ensuring our Year 5 students take pride in their uniforms and follow the College Uniform Policy.

Year 12 Visual Arts Workshop with contemporary Artist, Jordan Azcune
Our Year 12 Visual Arts students relished the opportunity to explore Jordan Azcune’s artistic practice in a recent Arts workshop. Jordan Azcune is an Australia contemporary artist and educator based in Meanjin/Brisbane. Utilising sculptural processes connected in temperature, gravity, and other atmospheric phenomena, Azcune creates artwork that negotiates understandings of our physical world. During the workshop our students engaged in new art making practices using wax paper and drawing processes. Students will link their workshop learnings to their personal inquiry.
Shake & Stir’s in-school production of George Orwell’s Animal Farm
Our Year 12 Drama students recently experienced Shake & Stir’s in-school production of George Orwell’s powerfully potent and profoundly popular allegory, Animal Farm. In this production revolution has taken place at Manor Farm. The animals have overthrown their human masters and assumed control of the farm. Led by the charismatic porker Napoleon and fuelled by enthusiastic camaraderie, a prosperous future free from the self-serving greed of humans is theirs for the taking. However, it is not long until the principles that promised equality become the shackles that bind the animals once again. This production serves as the stimulus for the current Year 12 summative assessment. Following the performance, students participated in a workshop with the actors where they could apply some of the dramatic elements they viewed as part of the performance. This was a great experience to prepare students for their Term 1 assessment.
Grin and Tonic's production of Edgar Allan Poe’s Hilariously Gruesome Tales of Mystery and Imagination
Our Year 9 students were captivated by Grin and Tonic’s Edgar Allan Poe’s Hilariously Gruesome Tales of Mystery and Imagination. This imaginative production blends Magical Realism and Gothic Theatre, bringing Poe’s eerie tales to life through a unique mix of comedy, music, and the macabre.
The play follows two eccentric cousins determined to carry on their family’s legacy as a troupe of traveling actors. Through theatrical flair and dark humour, they reimagine Poe’s chilling cautionary tales, offering audiences a fresh and entertaining perspective on the master of the macabre.
As part of the Year 9 Drama curriculum, this professional performance provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience live theatre first hand, enriching their understanding of performance styles and storytelling techniques.
Year 10 Drama - Sister Act
This week our Year 10 Drama class attended Queensland Performing Arts Centre to view Sister Act the musical. Based on the film, which quickly became a global phenomenon, Sister Act lit up the theatre and lifted all our spirits with its irresistible energy and joy! Students love viewing this professional show as part of their studies on musical theatre in Drama.
Artist in Residence Program - Daniel Butterworth
This week our Year 11 Visual Arts students welcomed Daniel Butterworth to the College. Daniel is a Doug Moran and Archibald Prize finalist and an established artist who specialises in portraiture, regularly using self-portraits to express social, political, and personal views. As part of Visual Arts, Year 11 students explore Art as Lens where they apply different lenses of viewpoints to art practice. Through this unit students explore how artists like Daniel work through processes to create new ways of thinking, meaning, and representation. In this unit students focus on people and places. Our students enjoyed learning about Daniel’s art practice and experiencing art in this different way. We look forward to seeing the students experiment as part of this unit. |

Music News
Music Learning and the Brain: Dr Anita Collins
In the second week of term, we were delighted to welcome Dr Anita Collins, Neuromusical Educator, to St Rita’s College, where she shared her insights on the significant impact of music learning on children’s brain development. Through tailored presentations to students, staff, and parents, Dr Collins shared her knowledge and research on the power of the auditory processing network, how different music can modulate emotional states, and how students learning music for 3-5 years in a structured way, strengthen their brain to assist in academic achievement, social skills, and wellbeing. She also shared how music learning develops stronger connections between the auditory, visual, and motor cortices and increases the amount of grey matter (storage systems and structures in the brain) and white matter (the message system in the brain).
- Year 5 & Year 7 students discovered how learning music strengthens their brains, boosts memory, and enhances problem-solving skills. They also explored how listening to different music can impact their emotional state and focus.
- All College teaching staff gained a deeper understanding of how music transforms children's cognitive abilities and supports their overall learning by developing stronger connections between the auditory, visual, and motor cortices and increases the amount of grey matter (storage systems and structures) and white matter (the message system) in the brain.
- Music staff enjoyed a special session with Dr Collins, exploring innovative ways to enrich our students' musical education.
- Parents received practical tips to support their child’s musical journey and heard how students learning music for 3-5 years in a structured way can strengthen their brain to positively impact academic achievement, social skills, and wellbeing.
Dr Collins' visit was an enriching experience, highlighting the lifelong benefits of music education and we are grateful she could share her passion and knowledge with so many members of our College community.

Primary Assembly - Guitar Ensemble Performance
Our Primary students were enthralled with a performance from the Guitar Ensemble at the Primary Assembly this week. This ensemble comprises 15 acoustic guitars and a bass guitar with students from Years 6-12 who rehearse each week under the direction of Dr Libby Myers, our guitar specialist. The Guitar Ensemble performed Manha de Carnaval a Spanish influenced piece that was one of the first Bossa Nova compositions to gain popularity outside of Brazil. It was wonderful to present their performance to such an appreciative audience. We look forward to hearing more from the Guitar Ensemble at the Instrumental Informance Evening on Monday 24 March.
St Agatha’s Choral Concert - Monday 17 March
We are very fortunate to have a strong Choral team at the College and each year one of the highlights on the Choral calendar is the St Agatha’s Concert. This year’s concert will be held on Monday 17 March at 6:30pm in the beautiful acoustics of St Agatha’s Church. Performing will be our three core choirs, two extension choirs, the St Rita’s Community Choir, and selected vocal soloists. The performance will provide an insight to the high quality of our choral program from our youngest and newest members all the way through to our senior students. We look forward to you joining with our Choral community for a divine evening of choral repertoire.
Instrumental Informance Evening - Monday 24 March
Unless you have had prior involvement as a musician, it is often difficult as a parent to understand what is required to perform on stage. To assist, we will be presenting our Instrumental Informance Evening that will showcase senior instrumental ensembles to new music students and parents to the College. This will be a chance to meet other new parents and talk with experienced music parents who could offer some sage advice. You will gain an overview of the Band and Strings streams and hear some informative performances and demonstrations of what the experience is like for a musician, your daughter, in an ensemble.
Who: New Music students and parents to the College this year along with parents of performing students
When: Monday 24 March, 6:30pm in the Trinity Auditorium
What: Hear from the Head of Cocurricular Music, Strings and Band Coordinators, President of Music Support Group and our Music Student Leadership team.
